Housing An Art(ist)

This project develops the urban fabric of Roosevelt Island by designing urban housing that is specifically catered towards the artists district. The art/design culture is manifested deeply within New York, and I wanted to create a similar idea in Roosevelt Island. A sculpture garden was also created in the landscape, in order to showcase famous sculptures.

Accompanying the sculpture garden, the housing has gallery spaces and exhibitions that fundamentally allows artists to live and work within their own studios; a live and work space. This would appeal to a specific audience; however, attracting artists to in particular to this area.

The studios have been developed in order to act as a public display of art, where artists can showcase their work and skills whilst painting etc. The studios are located on the promenade along the water, and the formal exhibition/gallery spaces can be accessed through the main street.

The building on the other side of the street is catered for general residents and not necessarily specific for artists.
